Rumor is the annoying twit at Vivid Blurry is getting a 9 to 5 next week. Boozhy wants to thank Baby Jesus for this blessing. Here's to hoping that Blurry's new employer keeps her so busy she won't have time to blog and we'll be relieved of her directionless venom and pop culture drivel.
Thing is, I can't stand Vivid Blurry's brand of baby gay. Smart (but not nearly as smart as they think they are), owning the venomous wit of one who has not yet learned where to direct it, vapid beyond human bounds, inherently mean and smug in the way that only a 22 year old can be. You know the type, they wear Century 21 D&G Tshirts from two years ago, squeal loudly and often in bars and are sloppy drunk by 1 am, because they were doing shots of vodka on the subway ride from Queens to Chelsea. Not all Baby Gays are like Vivid. My friend James is an excellent example of a good Baby Gay. James has all of Vivid Blurry's wit and youthful indefatigability, sans vapidity and inherent meanness. I mean my good buddy Andrew Sullivan is even scared of James' wit, and I've NEVER known Andrew to be one to back down from a verbal spar (a hilarious story I'll tell you another time).
I occasionally skim Blurry's shit just to see what baby gays (and by baby I mean 7 or 8 years younger than me) are thinking about these days. My stomach turns. It's not so much that the kid is vapid in that he celebrates it. Anyway, I'm just hoping that either he won't write as much or that he'll use his smarts for something other than stupid homages to Geri Halliwell (Kelly Clarkson is way better) and bemoaning the fact that his parents sprawling ranch is in a town with only one tanning salon.

wow.

"...vapid behond human bounds, inherently mean and smug..."
It's odd that you should flame one relatively harmless blogfag while chuckling away at Rocco's hate and smugness. Which one does more damage, huh?

In person, 'Toby' is a polite, articulate guy, nowhere near as incendiary as his online pics or text suggest. Many bloggers tend to have an online blog persona, and a "voice", and his online voice happens to be snotty. Like other annoying or evil blogs, don't let his get to you on any serious level. In real life, few of us are as interesting and tend to be more together than our blogs, or blogging voice, suggest.
And how together were you when you were 22?

I would never be caught dead in D&G.
Posted by: Toby | June 07, 2005 at 09:11 PM
Not to be overly shady- but what the heck! I find Andrew Sullivan's bizarrely conservative and contrarian rants and views of the world to be ever so much more terrifying that Vivid Blurry's. He is old enough to know better. Vivid Blurry as annoying as his blog is, is not required reading. I do like YOUR blog and you always serve up something Boozhy!
Posted by: Jim | June 07, 2005 at 11:07 PM
When Sullivan and I were on the bill to read at a DC event last year, Vivid Blurry was a no-show, apparently because he had homework. Isn't that precious?

There really is just a few tiny degrees of separation between Toby's & Rocco's blogs yet you endorse the latter...and don't retort with that hackneyed old defense that "I just don't get it" or "it's not meant to be taken seriously". At times Rocco does get it but saddly he seems to get caught up in his own artificial hype a little too often.....probably pretty much the same thing with Toby. The fact that they are intrinisically so similar may explain the friction between them and Toby's parents sprawling ranch is probably not that different from the Forgione Grand Estate in Greenwich CT with an X5 in the driveway and Mexican servants mowing the lawns...
If a 22 year old gay kid adores Ginger Spice enough to blog her a homage & this annoys you then perhaps it's time for you to climb down of that political high horse and get out more. You have your King Sihanouk; Toby has Geri Hallowell and if anyone really cares they probably both have 10 fingers and 10 toes!

Yeah, this is the first and last time I read this blog. I mean ... Andrew fucking Sullivan??? And is there a manual you can publish so all the baby gays can act exactly as you prescribe so we, baby and not-so-baby gays alike, can live in peace according to your will and wishes???

Toby gets a job and you hope this means he won't have time to blog.
Now, why would you need to be "relieved of [his] directionless venom and pop culture drivel" when you a) don't know him and b) only "occasionally skim" his work?
All you have to do is resist reading his blog. As Paris Hilton would say, stop being so desperate.
If his existence doesn't figure much in your life, I'd figure you'd simply ignore him. An ad hominem attack like this sometimes indicates something more sinister, and, instead of wounding him, ends up making you look like a bit of a loser. It's like an unattractive guy who lacks confidence and has issues about his looks being randomly mean to a good looking guy cause he can't resist lashing out.
I like his blog and I like yours. He's a fairly smart young man trying to find his way in the world. You're wrong to lump him with "bad baby gays." As Paris Hilton would say, stop being so desperate.

Isn't it alright to wear D&G and not have it mean something deeper? When did everyone become the self-appointed arbiter of all things cool or not? Isn't it possible for fags to live together PEACEFULLY without always tearing each other down -- especially in how we look, what we wear and with whom we choose to associate?
Isn't this supposed to be Pride Month??!
Posted by: Matt | June 08, 2005 at 11:31 AM
Juan's attack on Toby was pure unadulterated gay bitchiness and actually not very subtle, witty or clever dispite using Scrabble-winning, impressive big words like "indefatigability" (16 letters in that baby!).
Talk about vapid this rant in a nutshell could be paraphrased as follows:
"Toby I can't stand you or anyone who wears old D&G teeshirts when there are even gayer new ones for this season! Plus you get loud when you get drunk like most people but I just don't like that as I never get drunk and have fun so there! You are so full of it and think you're smart and I hate you coz I'm the same but you're way cuter and more people care about what you say! You make my stomach turn you really really do just because! So there! And what you write about Geri Hallowell is stupid & lame - how vapid she is and I just don't get her stupid message even though a lot of critics in the UK embrace her energy and positivity and big boobs! So there Vivid Blurry you've just been served by someone so much better than you!"

Ok People!
He is young and finding his way!
I had a run in with him on my blog..He said some nasty things and then after thinking and much rebuke in my comments ..(Some said some nasty nasty things)...He emailed me and apologized, admitted he was not as very nice gay man for what he said! He proved to be very gentlemanly showing a maturity that only is learned from your mistakes!
I admit fully I used to be a hot head and quick to judge when I was his age!
I believe we need to nurture the younger gay men and help them to lead healthy lives in order to make for change we all want!
Break the cycle, stop the hurt, be proud!

yikes. be nice to my friend Juan, people. he's allowed a moment of weakness.
Juan: play nice with other bloggers please. you're a sweetie, and unable to throw shade correctly, unlike that twisted cunt Rocco who actually knows how to pitch a crazy fit with a certain elan. you should stick to what you do best, writing wonderful posts with a lot of intelligence and heart.
and Bri: if you are going to quote Paris Hilton twice in one comment (which i wouldn't ever suggest), maybe pick a different quote the second time. just a suggestion.

This is my first and last visit to this awful blog - which I found through VividBlurry. This guy (Juan?) is a lousy writer and his use of cutesy terms like "baby gay" makes me want to puke. Also, his overuse of "vapid" and "indefatigable" implies a lack of facility with the English language. Even though everyone knows what they mean, over-using terms like these, while flaming someone because you don't like HIS blog, just make the guy sound like a pretentious asshole. YUCK!!!!
Posted by: ptc | June 08, 2005 at 05:38 PM
Yadda Yadda...so much complaining. Just don't read it if you don't like him. Jeez.
Posted by: Brechi | June 08, 2005 at 05:49 PM
Why are old men obsessed with Toby?
I swear this is the fifth entry on him I've seen this week from an elderly person..
Posted by: | June 08, 2005 at 08:20 PM
geez, mister, lighten up. what's with all the negativity? does vividblurry's rambling really affect you so much? if i don't like someone's blog, i don't read it, and you have the option of doing the same. besides, he writes about ginger spice, and you write about... him. not everyone posts about something that's important to other people. most blogs are selfish and personal, and that's the way it should be.
also, most of your condescending rant just sounds like it's really against some young fags you dislike, and you've projected this image onto vividblurry, and now loathe him for something he's probably not. just let the hate go, man.

As a "baby gay" myself (if 24 still counts), I have to admit that I - for the most part - agree with your opinion of Toby. However, I do not wish him to go away. In the span of two short years from graduating from college to becoming a "nine to fiver," I must admit that I feel like I've aged 10 yrs during this time. He'll grow up, just like the rest of us. I'm interested to see how he is going to handle it. Granted, I still have a lot of growing up to do myself, but sometimes I miss that perfect little vacuum of my late college years, with the real world knocking just on the other side of the door and me being so terribly eager to answer it. I might have waited just a little longer and lingered in that vacuum if I knew that - once opened - the door would be impossible to close.

Andrew Sullivan. As a reference. Seriously?

All you have to do is compare Toby's picture to the fugly homunculus at the top left to see why he hates him. Christ, is that the best pic he could come up with?
As Paris Hilton would say, don't be jealous!

after reading this 'review' of Toby's Blog,i'll add him to my favorites.beeing about 16 years older than him makes me his 'grand dad gay',but one never stops learning, even from a 'baby gay'
Posted by: Marcel | June 09, 2005 at 03:46 AM
A review of Toby has never been more accurate. I agree with you 100%. The only thing is, now you have to deal with his stupid minions who will come here and act all cat-sassy to defend Toby and his idiotic blog.
To hell with them, and to hell with Toby and his self indulged, recidulously meaningless life. Let's hope his next alcohol binge ends with his life as well. "Bottom's up" Toby!
And for the record, there's nothing tackier than referring to one's parents house as a "sprawling suburban ranch." People who live in mansions still say "I'm going back to the house" - people who live in run-down, poor, shitty areas who can't afford NYC or Brooklyn or the Hamptons call it a "sprawling suburban ranch" BRAVO, Toby...BRAVO!!!!!!!!! You've proved your classlessness yet again!
Posted by: The Truth | June 09, 2005 at 07:10 AM
There's no need for this unsolicited bitchness at all. If you don't like his blog then don't read it. Simple as.
When it comes to Toby, Paris Hilton got it right when she said: "That's so hot".
