Boozhy Candidates: Michelle Bachman (R-MN); A Fool For Christ

TPM digs up more on Michelle Bachmann the Republican candidate for House in Minnesota's 6th Congressional District.  Many of us read about Bachmann's potentially illegal endorsement by a megachurch.  But what we haven't heard about is how nuts Bachmann actually is.  Here are a few excerpts from past speeches:

"...God then called me to run for US Congress...And we took three days, and we fasted and prayed and said 'Lord, is this what You want? Is this Your will?'...He made that calling, sure. And it's been now 22 months that I have been running for congress.  Who in their right mind would spend 2 years to run for a job that lasts 2 years?  You'd have to be a fool.  You are now looking at a fool for Christ.

Crazy, right?  Oh, but there's more! On how Bachmann met her husband:

"And the Lord led me to this man...Marcus Bachman, my husband - led me to him and showed me that this was also part of my calling... On night we were praying...a girlfriend and I... and the Lord gave us the exact same vision.  And it was this, it was a picture of me, marrying this man in the valley...

Oh brother. Because she's deeply religious, suddenly she's crazy? I'm a progressive but I'm also a Christian, and I don't think it's going to help anyone to demean people for being religious. I'd be a little more concerned if she thought God was telling her to do things that were, you know, bad.

And isn't it kind of weird that Michelle and her girlfriend were spending the night praying together instead of hitting Target or Kohl's?

The fact that Bachman is deeply religious is not the issue. Good for her. The issue is that she is continually uses religion in her campaigning, and if she is talking God now, she's going to keep on talking God in office. Last time I checked, there was a separation between church and state in this country. Where has that gone?
Also, why do Christians trip over themselves to defend Michelle Bachman's right to speak about her religion, but then try to burn Keith Ellison at the stake because he is a follower of Islam? His religion ranks lower? Christians, why don't you start actually reading that book you throw around so much. It's not your place to rank religions, genders, or sexual preferences. That's God's job, and it's supposed to occur in the afterlife.
