I'm extremely confused after reading this article. It seems Tommy Morrison (also an Oklahoma native who I used to buddy up to the bar next to on Monkey Island) is arguing that he has been cured of HIV. 11 Years after testing positive for HIV, according to the ESPN.com article, Tommy Gun has undergone a battery of medical tests which indicate that he is no longer HIV positive. Morrison's promoter, Bob Arum, is quoted stating:
"They've [doctors] told me it is possible for HIV to disappear and if that's the case with Tommy, why shouldn't he be able to fight."
Huh?
Authors Note: Trust me, I'm no expert, but I'm fairly certain HIV doesn't disappear. I'm well aware of meds bringing a viral load to zero, but tests will indicate the presence of the virus in the body. More to come...

He said, "they can't find any virus, because it never was." I took that to mean he's arguing the original test was a false positive.

What's confusing? He's claiming the first test was a false positive. He may have been proven right now.

This quote from the linked article makes it pretty clear:
"Morrison, 38, maintains that his initial HIV test, the one that led to his suspension, was a false positive. He said all of his recent HIV tests have come back negative."

Yes, I understand Tommy is saying that he has never had the virus despite testing positive. However, if you read what the Boxing Assn says (in other articles) as well as his promoter (in this article) it throws his version of the truth into doubt. Not to mention he has argued that the false positive was planted by the ABA and that the government has created AIDS as part of a conspiracy, etc. etc. lends to his craziness. Coupled with the fact that he has remained out of boxing for 10+ years due to one positive test? Why wasn't that "false positive" disproven years ago, if indeed it was false? Doesn't add up to me.

I agree, there are things that don't add up -- Certainly, his AIDS conspiracy theories paint him as a fucking moron.
But why claim to be HIV- if you know you'll be tested, and the results will be made public (by virtue of his return to wrestling--or not)?
