tThousands are rallying across the Country to protest Proposition 8 in California. And I don't get it. Why are New Yorkers and now DCers protesting a ballot that limited the rights of California gays, while ignoring the fact that New York and DC don't have equal rights either.
True, it sucks for California and I certainly think Californians are doing the right thing by taking to the streets to protest the Passage of the deplorable Proposition 8, but what about New Yorkers, or District of Columbians? Beyond showing solidarity, why do those protesters care more about Californians than themselves.
By protesting Proposition 8, all protesters outside of California are wasting their efforts. California politicians could care less what New Yorkers or DC residents think as they aren't beholden to them. And New York and DC politicians have no reason to attempt to make things right by the gays, because the message of the thousands of their own political flock that have taken to the street isn't directed at them. Granted, I'm in the Middle East and not the States and have missed this groundswell, but it seems misguided and the cries for equality for Californians by any non-residents of California are politically moot.

Because gay activists in NYC are a bunch of silly dipshits who like to think they're bold by walking around Manhattan screaming. The real trouble with NY gay rights will be from Senator Diaz in the Bronx, but you'll never never never see one gay activist with the guts to leave Manhattan to go up there to protest.

I think not protesting the loss of their rights is a step towards reducing our own. It is a selfless act to show solidarity.

I agree with Gary... and in addition, I've heard rumblings that the anti-gay marriage people want to use Prop 8 as a rallying point to try to limit rights in other states. By protesting, we are sending a message that the limiting of civil rights in our own states will not be tolerated.

OK Queen it's time for you to shit or get off the pot. We get that you go all P-Town on us during the summer so we know to look forward to abysmally light blogging from you then but two months in between posts during the winter?!?!
THAT is not blogging my friend -- that's a hobby, and a not very well practiced one at that.
Either post or give me leave to purge my blogroll of Boozhy and thus free up space for someone who actually works at this blogging thing.

So let me get this right: we should not show support for others but be self-centered? American values are strictly based upon 'it's all about me'?
Tell that to Matthew Shepard. Tell that to the Log Cabinettes.
This faggot will go up to Bronx if need be. I'm not afraid of democracy. I'm not afraid of supporting the rights of others. And I'm in Brooklyn.

Maybe it's because of all the haters from other states who donated millions of dollars to the YES on Prop 8 campaign. A partial list of $500,000 and up contributors to the 36 million dollar campaign may be found here: http://www.californiansagainsthate.com/dishonorRoll.html
Peace!
