I was alerted to a new website yesterday: authonomy.com. It's run by the publishers at HarperCollins, and allows authors to upload samples of their work and then suffer the humiliation of being reviewed by other members of the site.  BUT, each month, the top five manuscripts are promised a perusal by HarperCollins editors.  I love the idea.  Democracy in publishing!

Boozhy Books: Recommended Reading

Kevin's book "dropped" yesterday.  I've ordered a few copies for friends, I suggest you order it now.  It's a beautiful read.  Both harrowing and hilarious, Mississippi Sissy is a story that won't be forgotten soon. In fact, Brenner and I have a new favorite catchphrase as a result of our reading of it.  Ah. Woe.

Boozhy Reviews: Ah Woe.

Boozhy's favorite memoir, Kevin Sessum's Mississippi Sissy was reviewed by the Times today.  Surprisingly, it wasn't the glowing review that those of us who have read the galley's of Kevin's memoir expected.  In fact, it seemed more a personal attack than a book review.   The Times reviewer, right wing lesbian, Norah Vincent, pulled no punches in attacking the memoir.  Vincent categorizes the book as fit only for "voyeuristic trauma gluttons", focusing on only one aspect of the memoir while failing to address,in my opinion the most important facet of the book, Sessums' systematic and detailed view of racial and homosexual oppression in the South during a critical moment in our national history... 

Seems to me that right wing lesbian Vincent doesn't like left wing Sissy boys.
