Boozhy Names: DraculaCunt Loses Election

Shelley_sekula_gibbsIf you are going to run as a write in candidate your name really should be something simple, catchy even, a name that can't be manipulated.  When one is thinking of easy names, one typically doesn't think of Shelley Sekula Gibbs.  Ms. Gibbs was the evil whack job Republican write in candidate looking to replace Tom DeLay as elected US Representative for TX D-22.

Ms. Gibbs lost (thank god as she is a total whack job) and although her political career may be dead, the ballots placed for her live on.  The Houston Press reports that voters were pretty inventive in the spelling of Ms. Gibbs name.  In fact the list of alternate spellings, accepted by the Board of Elections, is 22 pages long.  Voters were extremely creative.  Sekula was spelled "Sektula, Sukla, Sequila, Sedoko and Sedoka (puzzle fans?)"  Another voter entered Shelly Sekula Fibbs (he apparantly saw through her campaign to the REAL candidate that lie underneath).  Another which was a bit more overt in their disdain was Shelly DraculaCunt Gibs.  They spelled her first and last name wrong, but the middle name is pretty much right on par, if you ask us (the Texas Elections Board agrees as the vote counted).  Hat Tip:  PD

Boozhy Headlines: Evil Never Wins

WSJ runs an interesting piece on how gerrymandering backfired, resulting in the Reds thumping in Election '06.

"Republicans, under the leadership of Mr. DeLay, took the opportunity to use it [redistricting] as a reward or punishment to new heights in 2002.  In so doing, Republicans created two new vulnerabilities: ...dilution of core voters and...a sense of invulnerability that contributes to corruption and scandal.

Boozhy Headlines: Football First or The Smart Kids Get Screwed Again

Football always screws the smart kids.  Like in high school, when the losing football team received air conditioned luxury buses and hotel rooms for away games, while our state championship debate team crowded into a 20 year old van and stayed in a Super 8 on our own dime.  I knew football ruled America even back then...

And if anybody doubted the all encompassing importance of football, they need look no further than Ohio.  In a yet to be decided congressional race, State election officials have delayed the counting of over 9000 provisional ballots so as not to disrupt the Ohio State-Michigan game.

I feel sorry for the Democratic process as well as the smart kids who worked so hard on their campaign speeches, debates, issue education, and all the rest of it.  I feel sorry because even in the real world, where elections and Democracy truly matter, everything takes a back seat to football.  It's like a bad high school flashback, only this time it's not a flashback but scary reality.

Once again, the monolith that is Football tramples everything in its path.  Even when that "everything" is Democracy.  Depressing, isn't it?

Boozhy Headlines: A New Day Begins

Election '06 is in the record books.  So long George Allen and Mean Ol' Man Burns.  With today's concessions, the House and Senate belong to a new cast of characters.  We wish them well and we couldn't be more excited that change seems to finally be afoot.

Boozhy Quotes: Fat Drug Addled Man Repulses Us Again

Rush Limbaugh said the following in yesterday's radio address:

Now I'm liberated from having to constantly come in here every day and try to buck up a bunch of people who don't deserve it, to try to carry the water and make excuses for people who don't deserve it.

Gross.  Rush Limbaugh just publicly admitted to having zero journalistic integrity (not that I ever believed he had any), trying to convince others to drink the kool-aid although even he believed it to be poison.  Hat Tip: Sully

Boozhy Headlines: Old Man Makes Us Feel Sorry for Him

Conrad_burns_caption With 100% of precincts reporting, John Tester has been proclaimed victor at nearly 3,000 votes ahead (well outside the margin in which a recount is allowed).  John Tester (aka hunka man) called on Conrad Burns to concede, but Burns refused and issued a statement stating that he wouldn't concede because votes still exist to be counted (clearly he's going to try to make up ballots and submit them).

We here at Boozhy kind of feel sorry for him.  He's a very old man, forced into retirement because he's incompetent (and a crook, but we won't speak ill of the departed).  Poor Ol' Man Burns.  Poor Poor Mean Ol' Man Burns.

Election '06 Big Winner: ME!!!!

Brad_ellsworth_4 I was going to name all of America as the big winner, now that Americans have voted to transfer power in the House and (knock on wood) the Senate.  But, I decided, fuck it.  I worked hard.  I blogged a lot.  I made phone calls for MoveOn.org.  I voted and encouraged others to vote.  And the cherry on the icing was that my future husband won and it looks as if my hunka man won also.

I've included another photo of my Husband, Representative elect Brad Ellsworth.  Now that you've seen him...  Hands off, people! If Brad Ellsworth ever leaves his wife and kids, decides to go gay and then changes his mind about same-sex marriage.  I'm totally first in line.

Boozhy Acceptance Speeches: Michele Bachman

Michele_bachman Here's the audio of the Michele Bachman speech.  She sounds SO Minnesota.  As you listen to it she spends 95% of the 6 minute speech thanking every Minnesotan under the sun.  Noticeably absent?  She doesn't thank God!  Uh oh...  Are Michele and Jesus in a big fight?

Boozhy LiveBlogging: Over and Out

This was fun.  Particularly as Dems took House and made inroads into the Senate.  But, I'm exhausted and I have a date tomorrow, so needs my beauteous sleep.  Thanks for reading!

fBoozhy LiveBlogging: Election '06

12:06:  OK, I've been sitting here in my own sweat from the gymnasium for nearly 5 hours now.  I'm taking a shower.

11:52:  Webb is now 3,000 votes ahead of Allen in VA with 99% of votes counted.  Looks like a recount in Virginia.  That means more nastiness in this already very nasty race.

11:51:  Candy is making funny faces behind Wolf.  Maybe someone cut one in the war room...  Hmm...

11:38:  Great news on voter turnout.  Sully reports that young voter turnout is way way up.  Rock the vote kids!

Brad_ellsworth_3  11:29:  I just feel like posting another photo of my boyfriend Brad Ellsworth, who won in IN CD08.  So here you go.

11:26:  Following in Sony Bono's footsteps, washed up pop star John Hall (of band "Orleans" with the hit single "Still the One) is winning against Republican Sue Kelly in NY's District 19.

11:23:  OK, four hours into this I'm finally getting a handle on the super complicated CNN ticker at the bottom of the screen.

11:19:  OOOHHH!  Another fight between CNN analysts!  Carville gives Bennet the smackdown!

11:13:  We here at Boozhy are VERY powerful.  Anderson is back!  Yay Anderson!

11:12:  Where's Anderson?  He must be really tired from runnin around so much.  He was everywhere at the beginning of the broadcast.  Now Wolf seems to have taken over.  More Anderson!

11:09:  CNN calls the House for Democrats!!!  Hip Hip HOORAY!!!

Polk_city_iowa 11:07:  Someone in Polk City, IA loves my liveblogging!  My statcounter shows they've been on my blog for over 2 hours!  SHOUT OUT TO POLK CITY!!!

11:06:  Democratic pickups are coming fast and furious now.

10:55:  Don Sherwood, longtime Republican incumbent in PA CD10 loses.  Sherwood who was sued by his ex-mistress after acknowledging an extra-marital affair couldn't hold his seat and now the Dems have picked up 8 of the 15 seats neccessary.

10:53:  Republican Mark Foley's district in Florida looks as if it's going to Democrat Tim Mahoney.  Negron, the Republican who was running in Foley's stead just offered up his concession speech.  That makes 7 pickups.

J_christopher_callaghan10:42:  Democrat Hevesi is winning in the NY Comptroller race despite the fact that Ollie voted for his retarded bow tie wearing Republican Callaghan.  In Ollie's defense there was a mini-scandal involving Hevesi using taxpayer funds to ferry his invalided wife around in a State Limo which the (barely a newspaper and mostly a tabloid) New York Post totally exploited.  And Ollie does love his New York Post...

10:40:  Hillary just offered her victory speech.  Bill was smiling in the wings, but where was Chelsea???  Ollie and I were totally wondering what she was going to wear!  I'm bummed.

10:39:  Two more house races called for Dems.  CT CD05 has been called for Murphy and PA CD07 has been called for Sestak.

10:24:  Another Democratic pickup in Hodes from New Hampshire.  Ooohh... Anderson is back!  Yay, Anderson!  And he's talking to my favorite hippie correspondent Candy.  Look at her bracelets and black nail polish.  I loves her.

10:21:  I love the graphics on CNN.  Anderson has been absent for awhile.  Maybe my aforementioned observation that he has been sprinting around the CNN floor has finally taken it's toll.  I'm guessing he's in a corner panting while trying to catch his breath.

10:09:  House has picked up 3 of the requisite 15 seats.  My boyfriend Ellsworth and Donnely in Indiana and total surprise Yarmuth in KY.

10:01:  Rick Santorum is giving his concession speech.  Wow, his kids are a little on the chubby side.  OMG, I love the fat little youngest daughter bawling and holding her doll.  She's like a fat little Gretl from Sound of Music.

Ollie_on_country_drive 9:54:  I want to be at that blogparty in DC that CNN keeps cutting to.  Boo hoo.  I'm stuck here with Ollie (pictured) and Trumans (who is being a pest at the moment) in my sweaty gym clothes.  If I had a blogparty to go to with CNN in attendance I would look dashing and wear my Sunday best.

9:27:  Republican Senator Lincoln Chafee loses Rhode Island to Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse.  I'll kind of miss Lincoln.

9:23:  CNN projects Ben Cardin as the victor in Maryland Senate race with only 1% of precincts reporting.  How is that even possible?  But, hey if it's true, we'll take it!

9:19:  Anderson's roll is kind of frenetic in the new CNN election format.  He's boppin around the floor an awful lot.  I'm surprised he's not winded.

9:17:  Paula Zahn looks kind of dominatrixy in that black top and tall black patent leather knee high boots.

9:11:  CNN analysts almost go to blows over Santorum.  FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

9:07:  Is anybody getting an odd joy from watching Bill Bennet's obvious depressive state.  I mean I seriously thought he was going to cry when they called Casey as the victor in the Casey-Santorum race.

Rickpinktie_2

8:58:  Oh Rick Santorum.  We're totally going to miss your snappy lavendar jackets and pink ties.  We won't miss your bigoted remarks from the Senate floor.  Good Riddance, we say.  That's another Democratic pickup in the Senate.  Two down, four to go...

8:49:  Another blow to the Reds.  Brown beats Republican Incumbent DeWine in Ohio.

8:39:  Blow to Republicans.  Menendez wins NJ.

8:37:  Bill Frist looks a LOT like Tom DeLay.

Brad_ellsworth_2_1 8:18:  My boyfriend Brad Ellsworth was just called as the winner in Indiana CD08!  That's the first Democratic pickup in the House, only 14 more to go!  Yay, Brad!

8:09:  Does anybody else fell a little weird looking at the Florida race ticker with Mark Foley's name next to Democrat Tim Mahoney in Florida's CD16 race?  Especially as the ticker has Foley winning?

8:02:  Oh, the huge 8:00 buildup that Anderson and Wolf were touting doesn't mean that I get to know who wins just yet.  Harumph.  It just means that the polls close.

8:01:  OK, it's 8:01!  Tell me who won!!!!

7:59:  Oh my GOD!  Only one minute until 8:00 and polls close!

7:57:  Oh look the chunky hippy lady is now sitting next to Anderson and she's speaking!  Is her name really Candy?

7:54:  I love that chunky 60's hippy political consultant behind Jack Cafferty, with her hair parted down the middle.  I can't remember her name...  Look! Now she's laughing!

7:48:  Super Republican bellweather Indiana closed polls at 6:00 pm.  IN had 3 close house races that Dems have been hoping to sweep.  In IN CD's 2, 8 and 9 were all tight races. Looks as if CD 8 is firmly in the Blue column with Red Party candidate down nearly 40 points with 20% of polls reporting.  Other two are too close to call!

7:43:  Am I the only one that doesn't understand these ridiculous ticker graphics at the bottom of the screen on CNN?

7:42:  Just in from the gym (leg day... GRRR!!) with 18 mins before most states close the polls. I'm sweaty, but I'll shower later.  Just flipped CNN on the telley.
