Boozhy Headlines: Some Lessons Taught But Not Learned

Mark_pennAfter attempting to school Obama a few weeks ago regarding his advisor's meeting with Canada on the subject of NAFTA a few weeks ago, Hillary's ship is quickly taking on water with recent developments in which her top aide wasn't just winking at Colombia but trying to broker a NAFTA deal that Hillary "claims" to be against.  Is she really against it?  It may be, but it points to another failure to capably manage her campaign and hence the nation.

Hillary is anti-NAFTA but she hires a pro-NAFTA chief strategist who brokers pro-NAFTA deals while leading her campaign, she sends her husband to South Carolina to disenfranchise the black vote overnight and she can't remember the difference between a greeting composed of flowers and children's choirs and one resulting in sniper fire.  Do we really buy her argument that she has passed the presidential threshhold?  I don't.

Boozhy Headlines: The Surge is Working... If By Working You Mean Creating a Whole New Crop of Terrorists

These kind of stories don't get much play in the States, but you read about them often in foreign papers and they offer a very different opinion on the success of the surge.  From the UK based Independent:

Um Saad, a middle-aged woman living in the Sunni district of Khadra in west Baghdad, blames the Americans for the death of her husband and two of her sons and threatens revenge.

"They are monsters and devils wearing human clothes," she exclaims vehemently. "One day I will put on an explosive belt under my clothes and then blow myself up among the Americans. I will get revenge against them for my husband and sons and I will go to paradise."

Boozhy Headlines: He Must Have Watched Apocalypto

Farc_henchmanThe Colombian government is in a quandry whether to pay FARC henchman $2.5 Million for delivering the severed head of his boss, FARC leader Ivan Rios, to a Colombian military base.  And while the Colombian government is taken aback by the violence of the bloody severed head upon their doorstep, we think that if a government is going to stoop to the level of paying public bounties for the death of their citizenry, they shouldn't be so squeamish.

Boozhy Headlines: The Latest Czech Mate

Martina_navratilova_2Tennis legend Martina Navratilova has regained her Czech citizenship, and served up a very public renunciation of her American citizenship, nearly 30 years after fleeing the former Communist regime for the USA.  While Navratilova proudly gained US citizenship nearly three decades ago and has participated as an Olympian for the US, she has long been a vocal opponent to the Bush administration.  And this week, in an obvious political statement, is refuting the United States under the existing administration, stating:

"The thing is that we elected Bush, that is worse. Against that, nobody chose a Communist government in Czechoslovakia."

Boozhy Headlines: Fallon Steps Down or Spin Spin Sugar

Adm_fallonAdmiral William Fallon has stepped down as Chief of US Forces in the Middle East.  Fallon issued a public statement that his resignation was not a result of departures on policy from the Bush/Cheney/Gates triumverate, but because the public PERCEIVED him to have opinions which were not in line with the administration.  Fallon told CNN that the public perception has made him incapable of completing his responsibilities. And that folks is some impressive spin on behalf of the White House.

Fallon came to the forefront last year in a very public clash with Bush/Cheney/Gates on Iranian policy.  Fallon argued before Congress that war with Iran would be foolish (without permission from the President) and has been quoted last May as saying "there are several of us trying to put the crazies back in the box," apparantly in reference to opposition by the Joint Chiefs of Staff to an aggressive war with Iran.

By censuring Fallon's voice we are offered a read between the lines understanding of Fallon's resignation and our future with Iran looks more tenuous than ever before.

Boozhy Headlines: US Launches Precision Missile Attack and Precisely Kills 3 Women & 3 Children

In our continued efforts to sink to the lowest common denominator in our war of "Us vs. Them" (where nobody is actually sure who "Them" is anymore), according to CNN, the US "...'used precision missiles to strike a "known terrorist target' in southern Somalia."  CNN goes on to state:

The strike near Dhoobley, which is close to the Kenyan border, was aimed at a "facility where there were known terrorists" affiliated with East African al Qaeda operations, according to the official.  The strike destroyed two houses -- killing three women and three children, and wounding another 20 people...

The U.S. military official word is that the United States is "still collecting post-strike information and is not yet able to confirm any casualties."  And there is certainly more to come, but the truth seems to be that the US used precision missles and precisely killed 3 women and 3 children while failing to kill any terrorists.  Also, can we just go and bomb any sovereign nation based on intelligence that they may be housing terrorists?  Is that legal?

Boozhy Headlines: Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid

Bush has promised to help Cubans realize the "blessings of Liberty" as Fidel Castro releases the reins of Cuba.  Which Liberty?  The kind we helped Afghanistan realize?  Or the kind we helped Iraq realize?  Because, if I were Cuba, I'd say no thanks. It seems to me our brand of Liberty seems fraught with destruction, war and not so much Liberty in the end.  If I were Cuba I'd hold off on asking for America's help in creating Liberty until AFTER W. is gone.
